Dicitur et Mechlinia. Archiepiscopat. facta est a Paulo IV. Philippo II. Hispan. Rege curante. A voce MACHALE seu MACHALUM, nomen habet quae medii aevi Scriptoribus horreum sine tecto denotat, Campanis Galliae Machau; tum huic urbi, tum aliis similis appellationis vicis ad Mosam et circa Beringiam, nomen datum esse, iudicat Wendelinus, laudatus Car. du Fresne, in voce Machale.
